The petroleum industry is the industrial sector that extracts petroleum (including natural petroleum, oil shale, and natural gas) and refines and processes it. It consists of oil field geological exploration, oil field development, oil exploitation, transportation, refining and processing. Oil is the "blood" of industry and an important industrial energy source.
